Two years and one day ago, I finally made the decision to commit to BC (over BU). It’s been a long journey from the uncertainties of the prospective freshman era to the questioning, mid-mid-life crisis point of a college sophomore.
But here I sit tonight in my suite’s living room, caffeine pulsing through my veins, my mind wandering back to San Jose way back when I didn’t know what a heartbreak was, what “Ever to Excel” meant, what 2013 Marathon Monday held for me. It’s not really nostalgia if I don’t wish to return to the chronological point in the past, but I guess it’s called homesickness if I miss the places, the people, the environment.
I’m so happy here, and still I have a lot of uncertainties, as I would have had anywhere else. Life is a long long road ahead, full of relationships, decisions, and responsibilities, all of which I have little to no prediction for. What I do know is that I run the race of life for a crown that perhaps I already have been bestowed, not by myself but together with the Love of my life, toward the day when my vision is past the smoky mirror and gloriously face-to-face with Love. Eternality. Equipping myself daily with the power of heavenly imagination, patiently pressing on even through my numerous downfalls with the love and strength I am constantly supplied by You.
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
From non-being God created being. God created light, darkness, land, and the sea all originating from the absence of those things, when “the earth was formless and empty, [and] darkness was over the surface of the deep”. In that chaos of a shapeless world, God initiated order, starting with the separation of light and darkness and the division of dry land and sea. From there, life began; animals and plants appeared, occupying the seas, land, and air. Structure increased, developed, and evolved until it reached the climax of creation: mankind. It was and is God’s ultimate creation, what he built toward step-by-step during his six days of proliferate production.
From silence, we bring about one note, then another, fusing different notes together into a phrase and many phrases into one theme. As the theme develops and expands, so does the piece, increasing in complexity. No matter what medium we use – vocal chords, cello, or piano – our mind’s ambitions translate to our bodies’ physical disturbance of materials around us, and out of what was once silence we bring forth beautiful harmonies and notes. To create music is our weak imitation of God’s creation.
The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.
